Official Name in UNO: Republic of India
The word India is derived from River Indus, originally known as Sindhu in Sanskrit. The Sanskrit name of India is 'Bharat'.
 
National Emblem: Adapted from Sarnath Lion symbol of Ashoka Kingdom. The four lions standing back to back on a platform with wheel on the centre, bull on the right and horse on the left. The words Satyameva Jayate i.e. 'Truth Alone Triumphs' are inscribed below the wheel .
